Insect Identity
Last updated: September 2026
Welcome to Insect Identity ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
We collect minimal information needed for app functionality and advertising:
We do not operate a crash-reporting or analytics service of our own, and the app contains no analytics SDK. If something goes wrong, the app can compose an email for you containing the app version, your device model and OS version, and recent error messages — with file paths removed. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it, and you can read and edit the whole message first.
Insect Identity stores data locally on your device to improve your experience. Photos used for identification are processed on-device and are not transmitted to any server. We do not require an account.
You can delete any saved sighting, or all of them, from within the app — deleting a sighting deletes its photo from your device. Pro users can also export their collection as a spreadsheet file; that export is created on your device and goes wherever you choose to send it.
Insect Identity displays advertisements through Google AdMob to support free usage. Google AdMob may collect certain information for personalized advertising. You can learn more about Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
On iOS we request App Tracking Transparency permission before any personalized advertising is enabled. Where required — including the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — we also present Google's consent form, and you can reopen it at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options inside the app. If you decline either prompt, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized.
Advertising content is limited to a general-audience rating.
Insect Identity Pro is optional. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google — we never see your payment details — and are validated through RevenueCat, which acts as our service provider for that purpose. RevenueCat receives the store receipt and an anonymous identifier generated on your device; it does not receive your name, email address or photos.
Subscriptions renew until cancelled, which you can do at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. The lifetime unlock is a one-time purchase. Refunds are handled by the store, not by us.
Insect Identity is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Since data is stored locally on your device, the security of this data depends on your device's security settings.
Our app uses the following third-party services:
That is the complete list. The identification model itself is bundled inside the app and runs on your device, so identifying a bug involves no third party at all — and works with no network connection.
Each service has its own privacy policy governing the use of your information.
You have the right to:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
